Reminder for changing tires

  • Winter tires are compulsory from 1 December to 1 March.
  • Studded tires are allowed from 15 October to 1 April.
  • The minimum allowed tread depth of winter tires is 3 mm.
  • The minimum allowed tread depth of summer tires is 1.6 mm.
  • Tires should be checked for external damage each season, regardless of tread depth. If possible, damaged tires should be repaired. If repair is not possible, the damaged tire must be replaced. The technical condition of tires more than 10 years old should be checked by specialists.
  • You should also check the condition of the spare wheel.
  • In order to achieve maximum grip during the winter period, it is recommended to use as narrow tires as allowed for the vehicle.
  • If the replacement tires are already on wheels, they should still be balanced before the tire change to achieve better grip and to minimize braking distance.
  • The tire pressure of winter tires should be 0.2 bars greater than the pressure of summer tires as the volume of the gas (air) in the tire becomes smaller at lower temperatures and driving with underpressure damages the tire.
  • When you buy new studded tires, it is recommended to avoid sudden braking, acceleration and maneuvers during the first few hundred kilometers. This is necessary for the studs to fit better in their sockets and it extends the lifetime of the tires.
  • When the wheels of your car have anti-theft lug nuts, before coming to the tire change workshop please check that their key is in the car and tell its location to the serviceman.
